Some troubling memories from the past allow her repressed trauma to color the present
Tale
A serious theater director is tasked with transforming her former mentor’s most famous work, Salome. This is Amanda Seyfried’s second time starring in a film directed by Atom Egoyan since Chloe (2009). Link to Amanda the Jedi Show: I ALMOST Released | The Best and Worst of TIFF 2023 (2023). There is a fascinating and haunting story about Hawthorne, in which a father, a prominent avant-garde doctor, is fiercely protective of his daughter.
The woman is beautiful and terrible
As a child, he gradually introduces her to a poisonous plant. Until she matures, anyone who gets too close to her will suffer and die. The poison of the plant enters her vital blood. "You don’t love," he asks "that no one can bring you down?" Her answer cuts to the bone.
She tries to get out of the traps that have been set for her
“Dad, I’d rather love someone.” Jeanine is a theater director who, like the woman in Hawthorne’s story, is trying to step out of the shadow of heartless people. Abuse from her father, mentor, husband and now arrogant actor – abuse they call “love”; – Jeanine tries to heal and transcend them without losing what is essential and good about herself. To find something else.” “Take one meaning and the others are amplified.” I love Egoyan’s films for their depth, surprising twists, and exploration of interesting themes (passion, misjudgment, abuse, trying to find a way forward after mistakes, love, perspectives different from mine and others). The Seven Veils continues to follow a woman torn apart by abuse in a typically egotistical vein Canadian Opera Company, a few blocks from where I watched the film’s world premiere at the International Festival of Film from Toronto.
Overcoming the trauma of abuse is a fascinating subject
Although Egoyan spent too much time in the theater for my taste, Egoyan directed the actual production of Salome, and the big one was part of it. in Seven Veils Even some of the actors from the real work are brought to life by Amanda Seyfried – why did Seyfried have surgery not that she looks bad now, but she looks much better in egoyan’s previous film. (long sigh) When I think of Seven Veils, I like it better. Someone who said they loved me hurt me so much.
I see mine in Jean’s struggles
Sometimes it is a struggle to see that I am worthy of love.
